Scripture Tote Bags

Matt and I were put back into the Primary teaching the 7-year olds. This time around we have all girls. As an incentive to them bringing their scriptures, I told them I would make them a tote/purse. Each of them got to pick three of their favorite colors.

I used this great tutorial. I made my bags 13"x13" and the strap 30". The strap turned out to be a little long for 7 year olds, but I figured that they could grow into them.

Inside each purse I added a pocket and a pen holder. One of my girls, Anna, told me that she was happy that I put the pen holder in... now she has a place for her lipstick. (I thought that was adorable.)

Ella made me some yummy cookies and a card, and Bridget drew Matt and I a picture.

I made THE pleated purse

Do you remember my post HERE where I stated that I want to make this purse? Well I finally did it. I made the Pleated Purse. It took a month (I was busy selling my house and moving) but it's done.

1. How to use piping
2. How to install (lack of a better word) magnetic closure snaps.
3. What fusible fleece is and and how to use it.

I think it turned out lovely!

Pleated Purse

I want to make this pleated purse. I think it is adorable.
What You Need:

* 5/8 of a yard of 54″ width fabric for the sides, interior top bands and straps
* 5/8 of a yard of 54″ width fabric lining sides
* small piece of fabric for the top, exterior band
* small piece of fabric for the pockets
* 2 yards interfacing for the bag sides, straps and top bands.
* 1 yard fusible fleece- Pellon 987F
* 1 2-1/2 yard package of piping

Give an orphaned pillowcase a new home -- over your shoulder

1. Trim 1/4 inch off the closed end, and cut the case in half on the diagonal. Turn the fabric of each of the four diagonal cut edges over by 1/4 inch, twice; pin, and hem.

2. Place one pillowcase half inside the other, lining up bottom edges; pin, and sew at front where fabrics overlap. Repeat on other side. Turn fabric inside out, and hem case's cut bottom. Trim with pinking shears. Turn case right side out, tie top ends into a knot, and you have a carefree summer bag.

A cute flower handbag

I saw this cute purse pattern on Better Homes and Garden's website. I thought, "I could do this!" So I went on the hunt for two 20X28 dishtowels. I never found any that I liked enough to buy. So yesterday I went to Wal-mart and bought a yard of fabric on black and a yard of black and white flowers. The pattern calls for wool flowers, but I decided to go with a fake black rose instead. Following pattern was pretty simple. And I must say, my bag turned out really cute! (this picture is not the purse I made. I will post the picture of the one I made later...)

What you will need:
(2) 20X28 dishtowels or (2) pieces of fabric of the same measurements
(1) decorative embellishment- a fake flower looks great.
